World's fastest supercomputer empowered by processors of Playstation 3
|

A US military supercomputer has reached a long sought after computing milestone by processing more than 1000 trillion calculations per second. Interestingly this supercomputer has been powered by processors originally developed for Play station 3.
The new machine is more than twice as fast as the previous best, the IBM Blue Gene. This supercomputer is named as Roadrunner and was deviced and built by engineers and scientists at IBM and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
It will be used to solve classified US military problems. It will ensure that the country's stockpile of nuclear weapons will continue to work correctly as they age.
