According to a new research extra sleep acts like a tonic for peak athletic performance, mood and alertness.
These findings are based on a study of five healthy members of the men’s and women’s swimming teams from the Stanford University.
In the research, for the first phase the participants told to maintain their usual sleep pattern for the first fortnight. Then in the next phase they have been advised to extend their sleep to 10 hours daily for six to seven weeks.
The result of this research was amazing. Extra sleep enabled athletes perform much better.
“These results elucidate how sleep is a significant factor in achieving peak athletic performance,” said co-author Cheri Mah of the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Research Laboratory.
