Field Marshal Manekshaw's life makes a powerful comment on the impact a charismatic and trasformational leader can make on India. Although there might have been some equally competent army chiefs in the past,Sam's stature transcended the olive green world of Brigades ,Divisions, Corps and Commands. Rarely in post-independent India a leader has commanded such respect and admiration from the entire population.

The Saftey, honour and welfare of your country comes first always and everytime. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command comes next. Your own ease, comfort and safety comes last always and everytime is the remarkable words of Field Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode and is the inscription of the Indian Military Academy. We are all proud of you Bahadur saab. Your tactics and leadership qualities are lessons for us and the generations to come, as they will read your bravery in thier history.
