Sitting on a sofa and watching a movie which looked like it won’t get over till 2050, I desperately wanted to own a time machine which could fly me away from the theater to somewhere else.
Love Story 2050 is Harry Baweja’s adoption of some Hollywood flicks bundled with Bollywood style masala with plenty of songs and melodrama and here you are watching Love Story 2050.
Biggest problem with Love Story 2050 is even though it is so called futuristic movie, it reminds you of movies of seventies and eighties. It is a science fiction and you see a “Punarjanma” happening right there on silver screen.
What more! The futuristic Mumbai which you have seen on promos and trailer won’t come till second half. So what the first half has?
You will see introduction of the Hero Harman Baweja with much hip hop. Then a casual love story with Priyanka Chopra. Fight with super successful business tycoon dad. Choice between money and love. And so on.
Karan (Harman Baweja) and Sana (Priyanka Chopra) are in love. Karan's uncle Ya (Boman Irani) is a scientist who is working on a time machine. Sana expresses a desire to travel to 2050, but dies before it can happen. Karan and Ya decide to fulfill her wish by using time machine.
Here comes the twist. We are made to believe that people who die before their time are reborn with the same face. And this “same face second life avatar” is Zeisha (Priyanka Chopra again). Karan is determined to remind Zeisha about their love and take her beck to 2008. But there is a villain too. Dr Hoshi (a masked guy) wants to steal the time machine from Uncle Ya.
First half of the film has nothing new to offer. It is over stretched and boring. Second half shows the future of Mumbai with flying cars, biometric IDs, virtual salesmen, life-like robots, video game wars and talking teddy bears. But that’s not enough. The soul of the film lacks grip, good script and perfect flow.
Harman looks impressive in his debut film. He dances well and looks cute too. But he needs to improve his dialogue delivery. Priyanka is ok. Rest of the cast does not make an impact.
Special effects are good at parts. But if you are a regular Hollywood flick catcher you would like to give it a miss.
Plus Points:
- Future view of Mumbai
- Harman Baweja
- Sincere effort
Minus Points:
- Ah... list is just too long
[Just because of Harman Baweja, otherwise 1/5]
