Bob Beamon, then aged 22, became the first man to jump over 29 feet when he bettered the world mark 55 cms in 1968 Olympic held at Maxico City.

His jump of 8.90 meters, assisted by a wind speed of 2 meters per second, stood for 23 years before Mike Powell jumped 8.95 meters in Tokyo.

Bob Beamon took the attitude of 2240 meters, which reduced wind resistance and allowed him to set new record.
