Now, India is on the top of the list of countries having expertise in manufacturing semi conductors.
Intel inc.'s India subsidiary has unveiled world's first six core processor, the Intel Xeon 7400 series. Developed in the garden city Bangaluru by 400 odd techies, the processor is world's fastest and most efficient computer process till date.
Based on the latest 45 nanometer technology the six core micro processor packs a whopping 1.6 billion transistors on a one inch by one inch square.
It improves computer performance by 50% and cut back electricity consumption by 10%.
The high end Xeon server 7400 processor with its six processing cores per chip and 16 MB of shared chache memory will be useful for large data centers and enterprise resource planning.
Rival chip maker AMD's six core processor is due sometimes in 2009.
